Project H Seattle Happy Hour Benefit

If you are in Seattle, we hope to see you at the Project H happy hour benefit on May 19th at 5:30 pm at Red Door in Fremont!

Project H is a national organization that connects the power of design to the people who need it most. It is a team of volunteer designers and builders engaging locally to improve the quality of life for the socially overlooked.

Curious? This will be your chance to learn more about Project H and what the Seattle Chapter has been up since it formed last summer!

Shoppe Success!!

Thanks to everyone who came out for JOIN's Design Shoppe Saturday! What a fun night! Above and below are a few of our quick pics from the beginning of the evening before it got too crowded for words...

JOIN's Design Shoppe Participants Announced!

Here is a sneak peak!


Other participants include Chikabird, Dinah Coops Design, fruit super design, Greg Bethel, &c. and urbancase. We'll be showing Ty and our new Ty D.I.Y. recyclable shower curtain (launching 11/15/09) as well as our Cheri necklaces.

Save The Date Seattle: Nov 13th + Nov 28th

If you are in Seattle this November, there are two great design events coming up thanks to JOIN: Design Seattle. Grain will be participating in both, so we hope to see you there!

SCRAP
November 13th, 2009 - January 13th, 2009
A show of limited edition design objects in scrap wood by Seattle artists and designers. Will feature work by Grain, Iacoli & McAllister, Loc Trinh, Ladies & Gentlemen Studio, Laura Yeats, Trey Jones and Darin Montgomery for Urbancase, Fortyfive09 and &C.

Opening: Friday November 13th, 6:00pm - 9:00pm
Location: Fancy 1914 2nd Avenue (btwn Stewart & Virginia)

DESIGN SHOPPE
Saturday November 28th, 2009 7:00pm - 11:00pm
A one night pop-up shop featuring design objects from local artists and designers. Silent auction to benefit JOIN: Design Seattle and Nest Seattle.

JOIN's 'Design Shoppe' Call for Submissions


DATE: Saturday November 28th (one night only)
TIME: 7pm - 11pm
WHERE:
Vermillion Art + Wine - 1508 11th Ave btwn Pike and Pine - Seattle, WA 98122
OTHER: In addition to the Pop-Up, there will be a Silent Auction to benefit JOIN and
Nest Seattle. The sale and auction are cash and carry, no credit cards will be accepted. We will have dedicated "cashiers" to handle all transactions. In other words, you don't have to "man a booth," you can enjoy yourself.

TO SUBMIT: Objects should fall into the following categories: table top, lighting, accessories, jewelry, soft goods. No furniture will be accepted. Objects must be priced under $100 retail. Please send submissions to info@joinDesignSeattle.com with the following:

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: Midnight November 4th
DELIVERY DEADLINE: November 20th

FEE: Once your work has been chosen for inclusion in the Pop-Up, there is a $20 fee to sell. This fee will help offset marketing costs. Neither JOIN nor Vermillion will be taking a commission of sales.

Re+Vision at Olympic Sculpture Park

Come check out the Re+Vision: Design Your (Neighbor)hood final designs at the Olympic Sculpture Park in Seattle. The reception/presentation is August 7th from 6:00 - 8:00 pm.

The show will stay up through August 22nd.
Grain's own Chelsea Green was the Project Manager for this exciting 6-week design education program at the Seattle Art Museum. Read more about the program on their teen-run

Learn Young: Design + Sustainability Workshop

This Friday, Grain will be teaching a workshop on the role of design thinking and the importance of sustainability in today's world. The captive audience will be Ms. Doss' 4th grade class at Olympic Hills Elementary School.

"It will be great exposure for the kids. We've planned some fun activities to introduce design and encourage critical thinking. It's a great age for kids to be learning about larger concepts such as sustainability." - James Minola

Grain Wins GREEN AWARD!!!

Yay! Grain wins the award for best green design! Our winning Youth Chair (see post below) took home the award at the Seattle M+D+F furniture show at Design Within Reach. The judges for the show were:

Held at the Design Within Reach showroom on 1st Ave, the event was well attended, and several local designers were represented. Thanks to DWR and to all who made this event possible.

The Lab: An Evening With Matte Stephens

Velocity Art And Design presents The Lab: a series of events at their
South Lake Union showroom which will feature guests integral to shaping our landscape here in the Northwest and beyond, while helping to foster opportunities for creative thinking, networking, and inspiration.


The first event at The Lab will feature beloved artist Matte Stephens. Matte, his wife and a cadre of pets have recently relocated from Alabama to The Northwest. Matte is excited to be introduced to the creative community here in Seattle and to say thank you for all of your support for his artwork Matte and Velocity owner, John Tusher, will be on-hand to present stories about Matte’s life, being an independent artist, process, and inspiration. He will be available to answer questions from fellow artists and fans alike. Velocity will also have a drawing that evening for limited prints by Matte. New original works will be available for purchase at the store that evening.
